A 15-year-old girl has been charged as an adult with attempted murder in the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in Point Breeze on Tuesday night.

Amber Hellesten was in police custody and awaiting arraignment Wednesday night, the District Attorney's Office said.

A law-enforcement source said Hellesten got into an argument about 8 p.m. Tuesday with the 14-year-old on the 2100 block of Watkins Street.

It was unclear what the argument was about, but over the course of it, Hellesten allegedly stabbed the boy once near the heart with a pocketknife, the source said.

When police arrived on the scene, the boy tried to say something, but collapsed before he could get the words out, the source said.

Officers rushed him to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was in critical condition Wednesday morning.

Witnesses pointed police toward Hellesten, who lives in the area, the source said. A knife was found in her home, the source said.
