Entering the Suburban One National individual wrestling tournament Saturday, Zach Trampe knew he had the 120-pound weight class wrapped up.

The Council Rock South freshman has made the sport look fairly easy since this season's inception, grappling his way to a 29-9 record entering the conference tournament.

Therefore, it was of little surprise that Trampe pinned two consecutive opponents before besting Harry S Truman senior Jason McGrogan in the final with a 9-4 decision.

"I let up a few takedowns, but I scored mostly from a front headlock," Trampe said. "That's probably my go-to takedown. It's a big match, I stuck with the basic stuff, and I just did what I had to do."

"He came in this season and hit the ground running," Hawks coach Brad Silimperi said. "We didn't see too much of a transition with him this year. He's wrestled some top-shelf competition in some of the tournaments we've had getting ready for this postseason, and he's more than ready."

Trampe's gold medal came shortly after Council Rock South freshman Riley Palmer began the final round of matches with a 6-1 decision win at 106.

Palmer had knocked off Truman's previously undefeated Dylan Nuttall in the quarterfinals earlier with a 3-0 decision.

"[Palmer] is finding another level," Silimperi said. "He dominated some very good upperclassmen, and he really put on a show for the fans today."

The host Hawks took the top spot in the team competition and will send 11 wrestlers to the PIAA District 1 East individual tournament Saturday at Hatboro-Horsham.

Council Rock North took second overall in the tournament, receiving decision victories from seniors Timmy Ambacher (138) and Raj Patel (160) in the finals.

Neshaminy dominated the heavy weights, with senior Kody Lupfer (182) and sophomores Noah Kisselback (195) and Bruce Graeber (285) taking victories.
