A FORMER CITY radio personality was indicted by a grand jury yesterday on child-sex charges.

David A. Herman, 78, is charged with attempting to transport a minor to his home in St. Croix in order to have sex with her, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Herman, who for years worked as a DJ for 93.3 WMMR, was arrested in October at the St. Croix airport after engaging in a nearly yearlong online conversation with an undercover investigator from the Bergen County, N.J., Prosecutor's Office.

The investigator told Herman he was a 36-year-old woman with a 6-year-old daughter, and the former radio host repeatedly expressed interest in setting up sexual encounters with the girl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

In September, Herman paid to fly the two to his home in St. Croix in order to have sex with the girl, purchasing two airline tickets from New York's LaGuardia Airport to the island, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. He was arrested by agents from the Department of Homeland Security as he waited for the two at the airport.

If convicted, Herman faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
