A 26-year-old Air Force senior airman from Philadelphia was killed in a crash on I-95 near Girard Avenue that jammed traffic Tuesday morning, the Pennsylvania State Police said.

Victor Quach was driving his red Toyota MR2 in the center northbound lane after 4 a.m. when he spun out of control, the state police said.

The driver of a dump truck behind Quach tried to steer to the right but struck the Toyota, crushing the front driver's side of the car. Quach was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital where he died.

Both Quach and the dump truck driver were driving about 55 m.p.h., police said. Photos of the accident scene show that snow was falling around the time of the accident, but state police did not say if the weather was a factor in the crash.

Quach was a water and fuels maintenance technician with the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron at Dover Air Force base in Delaware, a base spokeswoman said.

"The loss of one of our airmen is a loss for all of us, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family during this difficult time," said Col. Randy Huiss, 436th Airlift Wing vice commander.
