A SPATE OF shootings in North Philly this week ended with arrests of nine people Thursday night.

The trouble began about 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, when a 23-year-old man was wounded in the left leg and buttocks on Park Avenue near Somerset Street, said Capt. Michael Cram, commander of the 26th District.

The injured man refused to cooperate with police, but was taken to a hospital, treated and released. Investigators found numerous shell casings at Park Avenue and Rush Street.

About 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, police were called back to the same stretch of Park Avenue for a report of gunfire, and found 26 fired cartridge casings from 9mm handguns on the street. No one was injured.

A Narcotics Enforcement Team set up shop on the same block Thursday night, and arrested nine people who were stopped as part of the investigation, Cram said. Their names were not released.

A pair of 9mm handguns were seized along with $426 in cash and a small amount of crack and PCP, Cram said.
