Philadelphia police on Tuesday issued a warrant for a 32-year-old man in connection with a weekend brawl in North Philadelphia that resulted in the shooting of a Temple University student who was a block away.

Jermill Edwards of the 2800 block of Fletcher Street in North Philadelphia was accused of being one of two participants in a dispute inside the Let Out, 1621 Cecil B. Moore Ave., that ended in gunplay early Sunday.

Police gave the following account:

After Edwards and another man had a confrontation, the two left the bar shortly before 2 a.m. The other man retrieved a firearm from a 2004 Chevrolet and exchanged gunfire with the Let Out's security guards.

One of the bullets struck a 21-year-old man in the abdomen. The man, a student whom police declined to identify, was treated at Hahnemann University Hospital.

The guards were not wounded, police said, but one of the gunmen, a 38-year-old man whom police declined to identify, was struck in a knee and drove off. His vehicle was found outside the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he had sought treatment. He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, police said.

Police spokeswoman Officer Jillian Russell said Edwards would likely face conspiracy charges.

A man who answered the phone at the Let Out on Tuesday said he saw the dispute unfold while a birthday party was going on.

What began as a verbal dispute between two guests migrated outside, where a case of "simple anger turns into 'I'm going to kill you,' " said the man, who declined to give his name.

Anyone with information about Edwards' whereabouts is asked to call Central Detectives at 215-686-3093.
