Hollywood's brightest stars sparkled at Sunday night's Academy Awards in gowns fashioned from nude metallics and white shimmer, wrapping up a nearly flawless red-carpet season.

The night's best-dressed prize goes to Naomi Watts, stunning in a white, cap-sleeved dress courtesy of Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein.

Lupita Nyong'o was a close second. She looked like she was floating in the icy-blue, whimsical Prada gown that she said reminded her of Nairobi, Kenya, her childhood home. The headband over her short haircut was bold, but it worked.

Jennifer Lawrence tripped again, but it didn't matter. She was still perfectly posh in a fiery Dior.

Pharrell Williams made another fashion statement, wearing walking shorts as part of his tux. It didn't matter they were Lanvin; the Twitterverse was appalled.

At first glance, I wasn't crazy about Cate Blanchett's Giorgio Armani, but the illusion detailing in the bodice made it quietly elegant. Amy Adams' navy-blue Gucci Couture also was regal. The peplum detailing made the look vintage and fresh. Idina Menzel, meanwhile, was smoking in her green, strapless Vera Wang.

Kerry Washington's mauve Jason Wu leaned plain, but she pulled it together with the deep berry lip. Viola Davis stood out in a strapless Escada and her "go-to" emerald-green shade.

And finally, Charlize Theron rose above the starlets in an exquisite black Dior - unique, sexy, and totally appropriate.
