WEST DEPTFORD A 50-year-old woman was found slain in her West Deptford apartment late Wednesday.

Margaret Ann DePietro was stabbed multiple times, police said. Her body was found about 11 p.m. in the Grande at Kings Woods complex, near Kings Highway and Grove Road, when a family member and friend checked on her.

One of DePietro's adult sons ran out of the apartment crying after the discovery, said neighbor Jana Liles, 27.

"He was screaming," she said. "He was so upset."

Liles described DePietro as a motherly figure who occasionally chatted with neighbors and told them to put on hats or coats if the weather was cold.

Liles and others reported hearing nothing before police arrived.

Christine Decker, 45, said she didn't feel scared at the apartment, given that the attack was not believed to be random.

"I don't think it's something we all have to live in fear for," she said.

Police on Thursday were planning to execute search warrants on DePietro's second-floor apartment and a Dumpster outside her building.

DePietro, who lived alone, did not answer a call earlier in the evening Wednesday before her body was discovered, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said.

The killing is the second in the South Jersey suburbs this week.

In Audubon on Tuesday, John Carey, 48, was shot to death in the 500 block of the White Horse Pike. Police said Carey was killed around 10:50 p.m. after trying to help a woman with whom he lived.

The woman was allegedly arguing with Brandon Mosby, 23, of Camden. Police have charged Mosby in connection with Carey's slaying, and were searching for him Thursday.
