Gore takes over as football coach at Del-Val Charter

TROY GORE has been named the head varsity football coach at Delaware-Valley Charter High. Gore, a longtime contributor to the Imhotep Charter football program, takes over after Jamel Newton replaced Shelton Farmer during last season at Del-Val.

"I'm taking on this exciting new challenge," Gore said. "I hired a dynamite staff and we're going to come in and revamp the whole culture, restore the program to its winning ways . . . and most importantly develop quality young men as well as football players."

Gore, a deputy chief for the Philadelphia Fire Department, is also a minister at the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia. He was one of the original founders of the Imhotep football program, with which he served as assistant head coach and running-backs coach.

Said Gore: "It's going to hurt me tremendously, but I learned a whole lot from coach Mark Wilson and coach Albie Crosbie [at Imhotep], and it will be good for city football that the knowledge I learned under them will be spread throughout the city."
