The freshman goalie stopped 24 shots as West Chester Rustin won its fourth Flyers Cup Class A championship in six years with a 4-1 win against Springfield (Delco) and shared the top two stars of the game with his brother.
"It's a dream come true," said Jason Grande, who was the second star and allowed five goals in four tournament games and stopped 79 of 84 shots. "It's great just to keep the dynasty going."
After Armen Asdourian snuck a sharp-angle shot past Springfield goalie Bryan Biehl to give Rustin a 1-0 lead in the first period, Michael Grande found an open area in the slot, outwaited Biehl, and beat him with a wrist shot over his glove to give Rustin a 2-0 lead just 21 seconds into the second period.
"Words can't describe how I feel," Michael Grande said.
"It's my second time winning this, and it feels like my first."
West Chester Rustin expanded its lead to 4-0 over the first 1 minute, 36 seconds of the third period with a pair of special-teams goals.
JR Barone, who had three goals and nine assists in the tournament and earned the MVP award, took a pass from Michael Grande at the top of the left circle and sent a wrist shot to the top left corner for a power-play goal.
One minute, 17 seconds later, Brett Christie forced a turnover and finished a breakaway for a shorthanded tally.
Michael Grande stepped on the ice for the final seconds and immediately tossed his stick and gloves into the air in celebration.
Eventually, he circled back to the dog pile around his brother behind the net.
