At 90, Delco assistant D.A. still at it

His colleagues marvel at Vram S. "Ned" Nedurian's efficiency and expertise.

"He handles twice as many cases as any of the other attorneys," said John F.X. Reilly, a deputy Delaware County district attorney.

But what is perhaps most remarkable about Nedurian is his age: 90.

And on Friday, he was at the center of a closely guarded secret in the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

For weeks, colleagues had been planning his 50th work-anniversary celebration. Late Friday morning, 200 friends, attorneys, judges and coworkers jammed into the council meeting room to honor Nedurian, who thought he was there to attend a mandatory staff meeting.

After serving in World War II, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 1946 and Dickinson School of Law in 1950. He worked in private practice and served as a district judge in Newtown Square.

In 1964 he joined the District Attorney's Office and three years later married his wife, Sylvia. "She was my secretary," he said.

Nedurian now works in the appeals division.

"I don't think there is another D.A. in the state that can say they have served for 50 long years," said District Attorney Jack Whelan.

"I am thrilled to be here," Nedurian said. As for a retirement date, he said: "I am not retiring."
