NO ONE was really sure what happened on Reserve Drive yesterday.

Police and bystanders swarmed the prim lawn of a home on the quiet, residential street in South Philadelphia well into the night, trying to piece together what led to the shooting death of a woman inside.

That woman, 50, was found shot once inside a bedroom in the home just after 1 p.m., said Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene about a half-hour later.

No official ruling was made on whether it was a homicide or a suicide, Little said.

A police source said that five shell casings from an automatic weapon were found in the home, on Reserve Drive near Pattison Avenue in The Reserve at Packer Park housing development.

Property records show that the victim apparently lived in the home in which she was found.

About 30 family members and neighbors stirred impatiently across the street. They declined to speak with a reporter, out of respect for the victim.
