Spike Eskin named program director at WIP

Posted: March 28, 2014

S PIKE ESKIN is the new program director on SportsRadio WIP. He replaces Jeff Sottolano, who was named director of programming for the CBS radio network late last year.

Eskin hosts a weekly talk show on WIP and acts as a sports anchor on KYW Newsradio. He's no stranger to program directing. He served as assistant program director at rock-music station WYSP before the it disappeared from the air, when CBS switched WIP to 'YSP's spot on the FM dial.

Spike will now, effectively, be the boss of his dad, Howard Eskin, who runs the 8 to 10 a.m. shift on Saturdays.

In a memo to employees, WIP operations manager Andy Bloom said Eskin has been serving as an interim program director while Bloom talked to "big name program directors whose names you undoubtedly know."

Bloom praised Eskin's passion, his creative mind and understanding of the digital future. He even referenced Eskin's recent Heimlich maneuvering skills that saved morning-show host Angelo Cataldi's life in January. "Spike has earned my respect and trust and thus has taken this job," Bloom wrote.
