WASHINGTON Former Eagles linebacker Garry Cobb announced Saturday that he intends to run for Congress, hoping to represent New Jersey's First House District.
Cobb, now a WIP radio sports personality who has never run for office, has said for weeks he intended to run for the open seat centered on Camden County but had not made his decision official.
He plans to make his announcement in Cherry Hill on Monday, the filing deadline.
Cobb will run as a Republican and will face an uphill fight to win the seat vacated in February by Rep. Rob Andrews after 23 years. The district is heavily Democratic - Andrews typically won better than 60 percent of the vote.
