NORTHEAST HIGH basketball coach Ira Stern was taken to a local hospital yesterday after suffering a seizure inside the gymnasium during a portion of the All-Star Labor Classic, which was held at the school.

Stern, who just completed his second season as the Vikings' coach, was taken from the school via ambulance.

Chris Riley, the Northeast athletic director, said Stern was expected to stay overnight as a precaution only.

The incident occurred after the boys' contest concluded and during halftime of the media vs. union members exhibition game.

Riley also said Stern has had a history of seizures, but hadn't suffered one since childhood.
