Rain forces second home postponement of the season

Posted: April 17, 2014

FOR THE SECOND TIME on the Phillies first homestand of 2014, a game was postponed because of inclement weather.

The Phillies postponed last night's game against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park about 2 hours before first pitch, as heavy rain invaded the ballpark before either team could take batting practice. The makeup game will be scheduled at a later date.

The Phillies and Braves will resume their four-game series tonight, when Cliff Lee pitches opposite Atlanta Opening Day starter Julio Teheran.

The Braves return to town twice more during the season:

during the final weekends of June (27-29) and September (26-28). The makeup date for last night's rainout will likely take place during the June weekend in the form of a doubleheader on June 28 or 29.

Both teams and the players'union must come to an agreement on the makeup date.
