Five families were displaced after a multi-unit fire in Logan Wednesday night.

The fire began at a corner home at 4801 N. 12th Street, fire department officials said. The department received the call at 11:33 p.m. and firefighters arrived at the home at 11:41 p.m., officials said.

On arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the basement of the corner home and had the fire under control by 11:50 p.m.

Five familities, including nine adults and seven children, sought assistance from the Red Cross assistance, officials said.

Four families were being housed at the Red Cross House and the fifth family was set to be visited by Red Cross officials today, the relief agency said.

The firefighters who arrived first on-scene were part of a backup company; another company was already at a fire on 8th Street and Hunting Park Avenue, officials said.
