La Salle assistant Adler to join Auburn staff

WHEN BRUCE PEARL was at La Salle five summers ago preparing his Maccabi USA team for what would become a gold-medal effort in Israel, Harris Adler was right by his side as a trusted assistant. So, it was no shock when it was announced yesterday that Adler, who has been with John Giannini as an assistant for his entire decadelong tenure as an aide, was named to fill out Pearl's new staff at Auburn.

"Harris and I have won gold together," Pearl said in a statement. "I believe he has an eye for talent . . . As Dr. John Giannini's assistant coach, Harris worked in all areas, making him, in my mind, the best fit for our staff here at Auburn."

Dr. G had high praise for Adler.

"Harris has made an immeasurable contribution to our program's growth over 10 years of dedicated service," Giannini said in a statement released by La Salle. "Specifically, he did an especially great job of organizing our recruiting efforts."

The coach said Adler was instrumental in recruiting Jerrell Wright, Sam Mills, Steve Zack and D.J. Peterson, among others.

"Before becoming an assistant coach, he helped improve our academic culture and our daily discipline through organizing all our daily activities as director of operations," Giannini said. "His move to Auburn expands his coaching experiences and continues his professional growth."

Before going to La Salle, Adler was a 2-year assistant for Fran Dunphy at Penn. Before that, he was an assistant at Centenary and a graduate assistant at Rowan, where he got a master's degree in higher education administration.
