THERE WAS MORE than meets the eye to Main Line ophthalmologist Paul Ezell.

Haverford Township police, who raided Ezell's house yesterday, allege the eye doctor and his adult daughter grew and distributed marijuana from their home on Sagamore Road near Allston.

The raid was the result of an anonymous tip left on the township's website, according to the search warrant for Ezell's house.

"Through a third-party source it has come to my attention that Dr. Ezell is growing marijuana at his residence and selling it to his patients and other individuals," the tipster wrote.

Ezell, 58, and his daughter, Victoria, 23, have been charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses.

Police estimated the Ezells' annual revenue from their cash crop was between $30,000 and $40,000. Police said more than 20 pot plants and more than $1,200 was confiscated from the house.

Yesterday was not the first time police were aware of marijuana in the Ezell house, according to the search warrant.

In April 2012, police and medics responded to the house when Ezell came home and found his 58-year-old wife, Jayne, unconscious. Jayne Ezell suffered from chronic pain and scoliosis, the search warrant said, and Paul Ezell kept her medication in a locked box so she wouldn't overdose.

The officer on scene noted that the house smelled like burnt marijuana and when medics asked Paul Ezell if his wife took any illegal drugs, he told them she occasionally smoked pot, the search warrant said.

However, in a nightstand by the bed, medics found a plastic bag with a white powdered residue and a glass pipe with burnt brown residue inside, according to the search warrant. They also allegedly found a marijuana roach.

No charges were ever filed, according to court records.

Jayne Ezell died in July, but Paul Ezell was still writing on his wife's Facebook page. Earlier this year, he posted this quote to her wall: "And suddenly, all the love songs were about you."

According to his wife's obituary, last year Paul Ezell was practicing at Insight Ophthalmology in Langhorne. Paul Ezell's LinkedIn page says he still works there and at Jahnle Eye Associates in Havertown, but his Facebook page says he is employed at Century Eye Care Ltd. in Bristol.
