Thanks to an unusual touchdown, the Soul rolled to a 79-60 home win over the New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday night.

Soul kicker Carlos Martinez sent the second-half kickoff into the end-zone net. The ball bounced to the ground then over the head of the returner before rolling on the ground, where the Soul's V'Keon Lacey scooped it up for the score.

That touchdown gave the Soul a 38-20 lead - an advantage they never let go of.

"Special teams is a big part of the game," said defensive back James Romain. "When you go hard on special teams and defense and it jells together, you take a lot of pressure off the offense."

The Soul improved to 4-4 in front of 6,080 at the Wells Fargo Center.

Throughout the game, quarterback Dan Raudabaugh dissected the New Orleans defense. The veteran passer totaled 271 yards and five touchdowns on 19-of-26 passing.

"Dan's been playing well the last month," said head coach Clint Dolezel.
