A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, for George Robert Wade, 95, a Chester County physician and cofounder of Paoli Hospital, who died Feb. 11 from complications from a fall in McKinney, Texas.
He lived in Chester Springs before moving to Florida and Texas.
After graduating from Amherst College in 1940 and the University of Pennsylvania College of Medicine in 1944, Dr. Wade served an internship in McKinney and a residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Wade was instrumental in establishing Paoli Hospital in 1968 at its current site on Lancaster Avenue. He served as head of the medical staff from 1970 to 1972, and practiced pediatrics from 1953 until retiring in 1988. The nursery in the hospital obstetrics unit was named in his honor.
