Carroll routs Wood to win Catholic League girls' lacrosse crown

A newcomer helped carry on a tradition Monday as Archbishop Carroll beat Archbishop Wood, 21-5, at Neumann University to win its 14th straight Catholic League girls' lacrosse title.

Freshman Samantha Swart had four goals and six assists to lead the Patriots. Megan Santoleri also had four goals for Carroll.

Independent Schools Tournament. Greta Meyer had eight draw controls and five ground balls to go with her three goals in Germantown Friends' 14-9 home win over Springside Chestnut Hill in the quarterfinals.

Baseball

Ethan Pritchett struck out seven and tossed a four-hitter as he pitched Neumann-Goretti to the Catholic League final in a 3-0 win over Cardinal O'Hara in the loser's bracket final at Widener. The Saints will play Roman Catholic for the title.

Softball

Kerri Badalski came on with one out in the seventh inning and the bases loaded, but was able to convert the save to get Archbishop Ryan to the Catholic League finals with a 2-1 win over Conwell-Egan at Arcadia University.

In the other semifinal, Ashley Seal delivered a four-hit shutout to help Lansdale Catholic beat Cardinal O'Hara, 4-0, at Arcadia.
