Pa. Boys: Wed. Pa. boys: Avon Grove edges Hershey

With 5.9 seconds to play, Tanner Peck scored to give Avon Grove a 9-8 victory over Hershey on Wednesday in the first round of the PIAA state boys' lacrosse tournament at West Chester Henderson.

The goal was Peck's second of the game. Stephen Cyron recorded a hat trick and added an assist. Ryan Cook scored two goals, and Beau Kush and Gavin Peltz each had one.

In other first-round action:

Penncrest 13, Bishop Shanahan 10 - Alex Bonnett led the Lions to the first state-tournament victory in program history.

The sophomore netted a team-high five goals and had two assists in the game at Henderson. Will Manganiello had a hat trick and an assist. Dylan McCleaft earned the win in net, recording seven saves.

Bishop Shanahan's Alex Wagner scored four goals. Jake Guinan had a goal and three assists for the Eagles.

Radnor 8, Carlisle 5 - Jack Norton scored a hat trick and had three assists to help the Red Raiders edge Carlisle at Exeter.

Jack Wilson collected a pair of goals and an assist.

Football

La Salle quarterback Kyle Shurmur received an offer from Vanderbilt. The junior also has offers from Temple, Pitt, Central Michigan, Illinois, Buffalo, Central Florida, and Cincinnati.
