Howard Glickman, 80, formerly of Elkins Park, an accountant for more than half a century, died Tuesday, June 3, of autoimmune kidney disease at Abington Hospice at Warminster.

Mr. Glickman's career in accounting and tax preparation lasted from August 1958 to December 2010, a total of 52 years and five months. He specialized in providing services to small and medium-sized companies.

"He really liked being able to go around and help his business clients. He became friends with many of them," said his daughter Jacqui Ioli.

For nearly 30 years, he maintained his own accounting firm in Wyncote and Glenside. Before that, he worked in Center City for another company.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Glickman graduated in 1952 from Central High School and in 1956 from Temple University with a bachelor of sciences degree in accounting.

From 1956 to 1958, he was assigned to the Army Finance Corps, Fort Jackson, near Columbia, S.C. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal.

After his military service, Mr. Glickman worked to earn his certification as a public accountant, and he opened his own accounting practice in the early 1970s.

He enjoyed spending leisure time at the Jersey Shore with friends and family.

In person, Mr. Glickman was cheerful and devoted to family. "He loved his kids and grandchildren and my mother, and he wasn't afraid to tell anybody about it," his daughter said. "He was a very funny guy."

Besides his daughter, he is survived by his wife, Esther Lesse Glickman; another daughter, Penny Lippman; and three grandchildren. A sister died in 1988.

A visitation at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, will be followed by a 2:30 p.m. Memorial Service in the Chapel at Ann's Choice, 30000 Ann's Choice Way, Warminster, Pa. 18974. Refreshments will follow the service. Mr. Glickman donated his body to the Humanity Gifts Registry.
