A Glenolden Borough woman whom police said was shot by her husband before he turned the gun on himself, has died.

Carol Ann Piroli,66, succumbed to her injuries Tuesday at 6:18 p.m. said Jay Kelly, Glenolden Police chief.

Piroli had been rushed to Crozer Chester Medical Center in extremely critical condition after her husband Richard Piroli, also 66, shot her twice in the head, police said. He then shot himself in the chest.

Police found the two in the bedroom of their West Ashland Road home early Tuesday morning after family asked them to check on the couple.

Neighbors said that they were shocked by the incident, which one said "came out of the blue" and that the two had been friendly, long-time residents who often helped out others.

Without elaboration, officials said that Richard Piroli had "exhibited unusual behavior" and that the case was still under investigation.
