Juveniles walk off with 13 MacBook laptops from Dobson Elementary School

THE STICKY-FINGERED duo entered the Manayunk school in the early morning hours and walked out with more than a dozen MacBook laptops, police said yesterday.

Northwest Detectives yesterday released surveillance video showing the two males entering Dobson Elementary School, on Umbria Street near Wright, about 6:15 a.m. June 10. The pair, which authorities identified as juveniles, broke into a cart where the laptops were charging and stole 13 computers, worth $17,957, police said.

A building engineer was inside the school at the time of the theft - he had unlocked the entrance for staffers - but was unaware of the crime, district spokesman Fernando Gallard said.

The juveniles are seen in the video leaving Dobson, holding on to a green camouflage duffel bag with the laptops inside, detectives said. One thief is hoisting a black backpack on his back.

Police are hoping a member of the public will be able to identify the thieves from the video, which can be seen on the Philadelphia police YouTube channel.

One culprit is described as in his mid-to-late teens, medium build, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, possibly with a white Nike symbol on the upper left front, police said. He was wearing denim shorts and red-and-gray sneakers and carrying the black backpack.

The second male is also in his mid-to-late teens and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue pants and white sneakers, detectives said.

Police warn the public not to approach the juveniles and to call 9-1-1 immediately. Tipsters are asked to call 215-686-8477.
