Karina's former home, at 1520 E. Passyunk Ave., was sold and is being extensively renovated. It is expected to open late this summer as Brigantessa, a partnership of Le Virtu's owners Francis Cratil Cretarola and Catherine Lee with chef Joe Cicala.
Justin Rosenberg and David Robkin just opened their third Honeygrow location, at 230 Radnor-Chester Rd. in Radnor, where the fast-casual salad/stir-fry/smoothie specialist joins a new Hubbub Coffee and future locations (late summer) of Pietro's Coal-Fired Pizza and Estia Taverna. Meanwhile, Honeygrow - which started at 110 S. 16th St. in 2012 and branched to Bala Cynwyd in 2013 - has picked up a $5 million investment led by Miller Investment Management. (Original investor Brook Lenfest participated in this round of funding.) Another location is due to open by year's end in the Ellisburg Circle Shopping Center in Cherry Hill.
Classic Cake's retail location at Short Hills Towne Center in Cherry Hill has launched a dessert bar, which includes coffee. This is the first time Classic has sold its wares by the serving.
Top Chef Season Four alumnus Spike Mendelsohn has set June 24 for the opening of Good Stuff Eatery, the first Philadelphia location of his burger enterprise, at 108 S. 18th St.
Chef Nick Farina, who turned a pizzeria into a taqueria to create Union Taco, at 712 W. Girard Ave., is planning to do it again. In mid-July, he expects to open a second shop at 4229 Main St. in Manayunk.
Crumbs, the cupcake chain, lasted just shy of one year at Suburban Square in Ardmore.
Two BYOBs have set their finales for June 28: West Philadelphia's Marigold Kitchen, which will button up after service, as chef/owner Robert Halpern wants to move on. Marigold - which has had several incarnations in that big Victorian on a leafy corner - will live on. Halpern has a buyer, whose name he won't disclose just yet. Also, Racine, the Pottstown fine-dining yearling, is being shuttered. Chef-owner Greg Vassos is weighing his options.
