Man assaults nun, steals car in Port Richmond

Posted: June 25, 2014

Police are searching for a man who attacked a 65-year-old nun Sunday morning in Port Richmond, then dragged her from a car and drove away with it.

The nun, whose name was not released, was wearing her habit and was waiting in the passenger seat of a friend's car outside a Shop Rite store on Aramingo Avenue about 11:15 a.m., police said. The friend was inside and had left the engine on.

The man opened the driver's-side door and said, "Tell me wherever you want to go," authorities said.

When the nun reached out to turn off the car, the man grabbed her hand, twisted it, and started punching her in the face while threatening to kill her, police said. The woman started yelling for help, and the man told her to get out of the car, then shoved her onto the street. The man drove away.

The woman was treated for cuts, bruises, and a broken finger.

The stolen car is a 2009 silver four-door Chevy Malibu with prior damage to the right side, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
