Ruiz goes on DL with concussionlike symptoms

THE PHILLIES placed Carlos Ruiz on the 7-day disabled list with concussionlike systems yesterday, about an hour before the game against the Braves.

In the 11th inning of the team's 14-inning win Thursday night, a 1-1 breaking ball from Marlins righthander A.J. Ramos plunked Ruiz in the head. The Phillies' catcher remained in the game for the final few innings.

Cameron Rupp caught Kyle Kendrick last night. To fill Ruiz's spot on the active roster, the Phillies selected the contract of Koyie Hill from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Hill, 35, has big-league experience with four teams since 2003.

Zach Collier, the 34th overall pick of the Phillies in the 2008 draft, was designated for assignment to make room for Hill on the 40-man roster.
