Cops: Boy, 15, drowns in Frankford Creek

Posted: July 02, 2014

IT'S A WARNING repeated all summer long by public-safety authorities: Stay out of the city's creeks and streams.

Yesterday, a teenager ignored that warning and lost his life in the waters of Frankford Creek, police said.

The victim, a 15-year-old boy whose identity wasn't immediately available, was swimming with friends in the creek near Ramona and Wyoming avenues in Juniata Park about 5:45 p.m., police said.

He was dragged under by the strong currents, and was unconscious when emergency medical personnel pulled him ashore minutes later.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:13 p.m., police said.
