Delco couple charged in hit-run, cover-up

A Delaware County couple were arrested Wednesday in an April hit-and-run accident in which an 18-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured.

Adrienne McCrea, 25, not only fled the scene, but later traveled to Virginia and sold her pickup truck to hide evidence of the accident on Chester Pike in Ridley Park, officials said.

Her boyfriend, Ty Winsheimer, 31, helped her hide her truck, said District Attorney Jack Whelan.

The victim, Christopher Brooks of Ridley Township, had several bones broken and was treated for life-threatening injuries. He "has a long road to full recovery ahead," Whelan said in a news release.

Witnesses told police that Brooks was hit by a pickup like one that belonged to McCrea. When confronted by police the week after the accident at the couple's Ridley Park home, Whelan said McCrea denied knowledge of the incident and refused to disclose the location of the truck.

Whelan said Winsheimer later admitted to police that after McCrea told him what happened, he helped her store the truck in New Jersey. Police confirmed that she drove it to Virginia and sold it to a junk-removal and resale company.

McCrea was arraigned Wednesday afternoon and charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and making false reports to police. Both McCrea and Winsheimer were charged with conspiracy and tampering with evidence.
