So much to see, for free, in A.C.

ATLANTIC CITY certainly provides plenty of ways for you to spend money on entertainment. But thanks to a number of initiatives, the town also boasts plenty of freebie fun this summer.

Between now and Labor Day, visitors and residents in the seaside gaming capital can avail themselves of free movie screenings and musical performances offering jazz, R&B and Broadway show tunes. For more information, go to

'Movies Under the Stars'

This family-centric series of flicks takes place at three separate locations. All screenings begin at dusk.

Bartram Place at the Beach

'Broadway On the Boardwalk'

Maybe the biggest coup of the summer in A.C. is this three-Mondays-in-July series of performances by cast members of 11 current Broadway musicals. Because of obvious cost and logistic issues, the performers will all wear their respective show T-shirts and sing to prerecorded musical tracks.

All performances take place at 8 p.m. at Kennedy Plaza, opposite Boardwalk Hall.

Monday: "Cabaret"; "Cinderella"; "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder"; "Motown the Musical."

July 21: "Chicago"; Pippin"; "On the Town"; "Rocky."

July 28: "Beautiful - the Carole King Musical"; "Bullets Over Broadway"; "Rock of Ages."

'Chicken Bone Beach' jazz concerts

Now in its 15th year, this program celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Atlantic City's African-American community ("Chicken Bone Beach" was the name given to the swath of strand between Mississippi and Georgia avenues to which African-Americans were relegated during the days of segregation).
