David St. Onge Jr., accused of helping his father dump his grandfather's body in a remote part of Northeast Pennsylvania, was kept in jail Friday while the charges against him moved from District Court to Montgomery County Court.

The 20-year-old went before District Judge Francis J. Bernhardt 3d and, through his court-appointed attorney, William McElroy, waived his preliminary hearing.

During the proceeding, McElroy asked Bernhardt to drop the $50,000 bail set for St. Onge and allow his release from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Assistant District Attorney Lauren McNulty objected, saying it wasn't clear where St. Onge would go. Bernhardt kept the bail.

"I'm not sure he's about running," McNulty said after the proceeding. "I'm more concerned about where he would live. He was living with his father, and his father is in custody."

St. Onge and his father, David Sr., 59, were arrested July 2 after the body of 88-year-old Jack St. Onge was found wrapped in tarps in a wooded area. St. Onge Sr. is being held without bail.

According to a court document, St. Onge Sr. told investigators that he struck his father on the head with a flashlight after the older man said he would throw him out of the Plymouth Meeting house where they all lived.

After he realized his father was dead, according to the document, St. Onge Sr. had his son help remove the body and dump it elsewhere.

St. Onge Sr. is charged with third-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and other charges. St. Onge Jr.'s charges include abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

No funeral arrangements have been made yet for Jack St. Onge.

As he was leaving the court offices, St. Onge Jr. was asked by a reporter whether he loved his grandfather. He said nothing.
