Bonnie Lynn LaFave, 68, a former public school administrator in Galloway Township, Atlantic County, died of cancer Saturday, July 5, at her home in Margate, where she had lived since the early 1980s.

Born in Camden, Ms. LaFave grew up in Westmont and Haddonfield and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1963.

She earned a bachelor's in education at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton in 1967 and a master's in education there in 1971, a cousin, Paul Bennett, said in an interview.

In 1990, she earned a doctorate in educational leadership at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Ms. LaFave began her public school career as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher of English and reading in Florida, Bennett said.

A plaque at her home showed that she was a member of the Galloway Township Education Association from 1984 to 2008, Bennett said.

After retiring in 2008, Ms. LaFave was an adjunct professor of teacher education and course development at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey until 2012, her cousin said.

She was a member of the educators' organization Phi Delta Kappa.

At the Margate Community Church, she was a member and a deacon.

Besides Paul Bennett, she is survived by another cousin, Earl Bennett, and a maternal aunt, Georgina Bennett.

A visitation was set from 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 18 at the Margate Community Church, 8900 Ventnor Ave., Margate, before a 7 p.m. memorial service there.
