Sources: Wood star to transfer to Temple

FORMER ARCHBISHOP Wood tight end Colin Thompson is transferring to Temple after two injury-plagued seasons at Florida, sources familiar with the situation confirmed.

Rated as one of the top players at his position in the recruiting class of 2012, he never caught a pass for the Gators. He played in three games, all last year.

Thompson, a 6-4, 250-pounder, suffered repeated foot issues. In May, a UF spokesman said the Southeastern Conference had approved a medical exemption for him, which means he could be eligible to play this season, if the NCAA agrees.

Thompson visited Penn State. Central Florida, Stanford and Villanova were among the other schools that expressed interest.

On Saturday, the Owls received an oral commitment from Kareem Ali Jr., from Timber Creek High in Sicklerville, N.J., who's rated as the No. 28 cornerback in the 2015 class by Rivals. He originally committed to Maryland, but his father played football at Temple and his mother ran track there. Ali is the 13th player to commit for next season. Four are from South Jersey, and two are from suburban Philadelphia.
