Gulph Mills' Hargrove leads Pa. Amateur

Nelson Hargrove of Gulph Mills Golf Club shot a 3-under-par 68 Monday to take a 1-shot lead in the 101st Pennsylvania Amateur Championship at Oakmont Country Club in Allegheny County.

Tied for second at 69 were Joseph Fabrizio Jr. (Aronimink), Thomas Steve (Valley Brook), and Arnie Cutrell (Greensburg). Kyle Sterbinsky (Yardley) and Matthew Mattare (Saucon Valley) were at 1-under 70.

Defending champion Chris Ault of Yardley was in a three-way tie for 14th at 73.

Mid-Amateur Qualifier

Kyle Davis shot a 3-under 69 to earn medalist honors in a qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur administered by the Golf Association of Philadelphia at Bidermann Golf Club in Wilmington, his home course.

Davis is the club's two-time reigning champion.

Also advancing were Dan Arison (Applebrook), Peter Barron III (Stone Harbor), Scott McNeil (Philadelphia Publinks GA), Scott McNeil, LedgeRock Golf Club's Christopher Storck (LedgeRock), and Brett Williams (Baltimore Country Club).

Saucon Valley Country Club outside Bethlehem, Pa., will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Sept. 6-11.

Philadelphia Junior

Will Bernstein of New York fired a 3-over 73 in the second round to retain his lead in the boys' division of the AJGA Philadelphia Junior at Huntingdon Valley Country Club.

Bernstein was at 1-over 141 through two rounds, 2 shots better than Davis Lamb of Potomac, Md., who was in second.

In the girls' division, Linda Wang of Fresh Meadows, N.Y., and Amy Ding of Lexington, Mass., were tied for the lead at 15-over 155 after the second round

Brynn Walker of St. Davids was in third place, a stroke back.

Delaware Open

Chris Gray was tied for the lead with amateur Christopher Hickman of Chester River at 7-under 135 after two rounds of the Delaware Open at Kennett Square Golf & Country Club.

Chris Wisler and Dave McNabb were 3 shots back.
