A MAN WAS fighting for his life last night after he was shot a few yards outside a concert dedicated to peace, police said.

Just after 8:30 p.m., police received reports of someone shot at the Dell Music Center in Strawberry Mansion, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Officers found a 20-year-old man lying in the center's parking lot, on 33rd Street near Huntingdon. He had been shot twice in his abdomen and right thigh, and was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition, Small said.

The victim was one of about 600 attendees of "Philly Helping Philly," a rap concert held to raise awareness of, and put an end to, violence in the city.

One of those attendees, a teenage girl who declined to give her name, told the Daily News that the concert ended abruptly, and that "everyone was pushed outside without any explanation."

It was only when they got to the parking lot and were standing feet from where the man was gunned down that they learned what happened.

The gunfire was sparked by an argument, Small said, and the victim was shot at close range by a teenage boy, who fled in a white Chevrolet Impala.

Nearby surveillance cameras captured both the argument and the shooting, and investigators were scouring the city last night for the gunman.

Several witnesses were taken to Central Detectives for questioning, Small said.
