Sixers' Jordan McRae signs with Australian team

Jordan McRae, the 76ers' 6-foot-6 rookie forward from the University of Tennessee who raised his profile by averaging 21 points in four Las Vegas Summer League games, has signed to play in Australia.

McRae will play for CTI Melbourne United.

"We really like his length and athleticism, as well as his ability to score the ball in a number of ways," coach Chris Anstey said on the team's website.

McRae, 23, has an NBA release clause in his contract, according to the website. The Sixers retain his rights and would likely prefer that he compete this season in Australia and earn valuable playing time.

McRae was picked 58th in the NBA draft by San Antonio and was traded immediately to the Sixers.

McRae averaged 18.5 points last season for Tennessee. Also known as a strong defender, he averaged 1.8 steals in the summer league.

Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie and McRae's agent, Derrick Powell, were unavailable for comment. - Marc Narducci
