Wood QB switching to Prep

Posted: September 05, 2014

Junior quarterback Tom Garlick, a two-year starter for defending PIAA Class AAA state champion Archbishop Wood, will attend reigning AAAA titlist St. Joseph's Prep this year, multiple sources said.

Prep coach Gabe Infante said Wednesday evening that Garlick had "applied and been accepted" but was not yet officially enrolled.

"It's an admissions thing at this point," Infante said.

After Garlick did not suit up for No. 2-ranked Wood on Friday in the season-opening win over DeMatha Catholic (Md.), it was widely rumored that he was considering transferring. In training camp this year, Garlick lost a battle with fellow junior Anthony Russo for the starting position.

Wood athletic director Joe Sette said an exit interview was conducted with Garlick and his family.

"They just indicated they were looking for a change," he said.

For a transfer to participate immediately in athletic contests at his new school, both the receiving school and sending school must sign a PIAA athletic transfer waiver request form.

If the sending school's principal declines to sign the waiver form, the receiving school can appeal for athletic eligibility to a PIAA district committee.
