ALL YEAR long Ohio State's fans wondered whether Aaron Craft - one of the nation's top defenders - would ever make major contributions at the other end of the court. He picked the perfect time to finally break loose. Craft continually slashed through the lane for a career-high 21 points on Sunday - more than he had scored in the last three games combined - to lead the 18th-ranked Buckeyes to a 68-60 victory over No. 4 Michigan State in Columbus, Ohio. "Give Aaron Craft credit.

The name Gonzaga used to be synonymous with Cinderella. Not anymore. This year's Bulldogs are more likely to be fitted for a national crown than a glass slipper. Fourteen years after bursting onto the national scene with a run to the Elite Eight, Gonzaga is a No. 1 seed for the first time. Led by Canadian big man Kelly Olynyk, Gonzaga won 31 games, the most in school history, and finished as the nation's top-ranked team. Still, some will doubt their regular-season resume after they went 16-0 against mostly overmatched West Coast Conference opponents.

LOS ANGELES - During Ohio State's journey to the Final Four last season, Aaron Craft learned the importance of focusing on the next 40 minutes, not the three-week trip. So Craft didn't realize the highest seeds in the West Regional were dropping like dominoes until earlier this week. He purposely didn't learn much about ninth-seeded Wichita State until Thursday night, when the powerful Buckeyes found out they're facing the unheralded Shockers on Saturday for another ticket to the Final Four.

TOP CHOICE West Virginia at Syracuse, Saturday at 1 p.m., ESPNU: The Mountaineers were dealt a surprising 16-point loss by freshman-laden St. John's in their most recent game, and you can bet coach Bob Huggins will have them ready for the No. 2 Orange, which likely will be without shot-blocking center Fab Melo. STARTING FIVE Kansas at Iowa State, Saturday at 2 p.m., ESPN: Look for the Cyclones' 6-foot-8, 270-pound Royce White and a loud partisan crowd to try to take Thomas Robinson and the Jayhawks out of their game.

Jared Berggren scored Wisconsin's final five points - including a go-ahead three-pointer with 31 seconds left - and the 16th-ranked Badgers beat No. 8 Ohio State, 63-60, on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. Jordan Taylor had 19 points and Ryan Evans 10 for the Badgers (21-8, 10-6 Big Ten), who made up for an earlier loss at home to the Buckeyes. With Ohio State (23-6, 11-5) up by a point, Berggren swished a shot from beyond the arc on the left wing. When the Buckeyes called a time-out to set up a play, the Badgers and a small contingent of fans celebrated.

DAYTON, Ohio - Iowa State came up a half-second short of yet another wild West upset. Making it hurt even more, the nation's leaders in three-point shots ended up being beaten by a trey. Aaron Craft dribbled in place as the clock ran down and hit a three-pointer with a half-second left Sunday, sending second-seeded Ohio State to a 78-75 victory and a school-record fourth straight trip to the round of 16. Tenth-seeded Iowa State (23-12) overcame a late 13-point deficit by hitting threes - the Cyclones' specialty - but couldn't stop the one that made the difference.

Jared Sullinger doesn't get mad anymore. Those days are over. The Ohio State sophomore forward knows he can't afford to lose his temper if the Buckeyes want to reach the Final Four. So rather than sulk after foul trouble and some solid Gonzaga defense frustrated him for 36 minutes Saturday, the quickly maturing big man relaxed, took a deep breath and hoisted the Buckeyes on his broad shoulders. Sullinger scored 18 points, including two big baskets on soft hook shots in the final 3 minutes to lead Ohio State to a 73-66 victory in Pittsburgh and a spot in the regional semifinals for the third straight year.

PITTSBURGH - One team's misfortune is another team's good fortune. Think Kansas, Missouri or Duke would give up their bracket to change to the East now that Syracuse big man Fab Melo has been declared ineligible for the NCAA Tournament? Ohio State is the No. 2 seed to Syracuse's No. 1. The Buckeyes were always live. Now, they are more live. They start play tonight at Consol Energy Center against Loyola (Md.). President Obama noticed. Or maybe he knows Ohio is much more in play than New York come November so he took Ohio State in his Final Four.

DAYTON, Ohio - Aaron Craft dribbled in place at the top of the arc, watching to see if any of his Ohio State teammates were getting open near the basket for a game-winning shot. Nothing there. The point guard had a clear look at the clock as it raced toward zero atop the backboard. He realized what he had to do - take a little Ohio State tournament history into his hands. Craft held the ball until he had no other choice, then swished a three-pointer with a half-second left Sunday for a 78-75 victory over Iowa State, sending the Buckeyes to a school-record fourth straight trip to the round of 16. No. 2 Ohio State had managed to escape as the lone high seed left in the NCAA Tournament's most-busted bracket.

DESHAUN THOMAS and Aaron Craft scored nine of visiting Ohio State's points in a decisive 11-2 run, leading the 14th-ranked Buckeyes past No. 2 Indiana, 67-58, on Tuesday night. Thomas finished with 18 points and Craft added 15 as the Buckeyes (22-7, 12-5 Big Ten) won their fourth straight. Indiana had big plans for Senior Night. After clinching a share of its conference league title in 11 years with losses by Michigan State and Wisconsin on Sunday, the Hoosiers (25-5, 13-4) were trying to claim their first outright Big Ten crown since 1993.

A BALL THAT rattled around the rim and bounced out separated Michigan from its first No. 1 ranking in more than 20 years. Point guard Trey Burke's stepback jumper with 17 seconds went down, then came out, leaving No. 2 Michigan on the wrong side of a 56-53 loss to rival and 15th-ranked Ohio State on Sunday. After No. 1 Duke lost to North Carolina State a day earlier, the Wolverines were in prime position to ascend to No. 1 for the first time since November 1992. Instead, they went home with their first loss, also depriving them of the best start in school history.

NEW ORLEANS - Saturday night's second national semifinal at the Superdome looked very much like the first one, with the favorite taking a significant lead and the underdog looking as if it might never score. Both games changed dramatically in the second half, going from double-digit leads to ties. Kansas, however, was not Louisville. The Jayhawks came from way back and just kept coming, refusing to be deterred by playing from behind all night. Beyond the brilliant play of their star, Thomas Robinson, the Jayhawks (32-6)
