YOU CAN put Tattle face-up on the dining room table today. There are no Tiger Woods stories. Our favorite Allentown actress, Amanda Seyfried ("Mamma Mia" and the upcoming "Dear John" and "Chloe"), will be leaving the HBO series "Big Love" to become a full-time movie star. "She's been exploring her movie career for a couple of years now, and we've been giving her a lot of room to do that," "Big Love" creator Will Scheffer told TV Guide. "I know having a commitment to a show for six months definitely cuts into her ability to pursue that career.

Atom Egoyan's "Chloe" put me in mind of "Knocked Up," a movie that it in no way resembles. The Apatow movie was on my mind because some of its characters attempted to create a Web site that would enable users to go directly to nude scenes in obscure movies featuring famous stars. The men were chagrined to find that such a site already existed - bad news for them, but good news to those who, years from now, want to know where to find a very nice makeout scene featuring Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore.

Only a half decade ago it was, yet it seems like a cultural eon. A young star, fresh from the produce section, could still venture out at night without fear of being pecked to pieces like Tippi Hedren in "The Birds. " - James Wolcott, writing in Vanity Fair in 2008 For an actress in a 24/7 Mean Girls media culture, with vultures beaking at her weight, wardrobe, and arm candy, Amanda Seyfried keeps her private life private and her priorities straight. "I know what and who I feel most connected to," says the spirited star of HBO's Big Love and the new film Dear John.

LET ME BE the first to admit that I did not expect the "Ted" sequel to address the Dred Scott decision and the issue of personhood. Ted, after all, is a talking teddy bear whose magical powers of obscene speech are meant to personify (and sometimes glorify) the stubborn adolescent who resides inside many American males. How many American males? Hard to say. But let's call it a majority (the first movie's $500-plus million box office supports this assessment). So it's with surprise that we realize that Seth MacFarlane's game in "Ted 2" is to spin Ted the other way, as a symbol of oppressed minorities - immigrants, gay couples, Caitlyn Jenner, people who go to Comic-Con, non-traditional families yearning to be free to be you and me. In "2," Ted gets hitched (to Philadelphia native Jessica Barth)

More jail for Chris Brown? Should we feel empathy for trouble-magnet Chris Brown or revel in his misfortune? The singer spent the weekend in a Los Angeles jail after he was kicked out of the court-ordered rehab where he was being treated "for anger management, substance abuse, and issues related to bipolar disorder," as Variety puts it. The 24-year-old Grammy winner, who may face additional penalties, including more jail time, was...

Let's face it, Hollywood is a cruel and vicious taskmaster. Impelled to act by fans' indecent desires - or, at least, the unconscious drives they've been programmed to have by Hollywood (it's a vicious cycle!) - the Biz forces women who want to succeed to carve themselves up in dread ways physical and spiritual so they appear impossibly thin and young. And the consequences? What about the loss? The trauma? Amanda Seyfried knows. The Les Misérables and Lovelace star was forced to sacrifice her curvelicious figure on the altar of fame.

THIS TIME OF YEAR, the only celebrities on college campuses are there to give commencement addresses or watch their children graduate. Except for Eva Longoria . Next time you go for a walk in the country, or in the park, or in your garden if you have one, watch out for the teensy-weensie folk dressed like Robin Hood, zipping through the blades of grass, whooshing this way and that on the backs of hummingbirds. Watch for the talking micro-snails and slugs, too, the jolly caterpillars and sinister Boggans with their pointy teeth and animal cowls, and the beautiful faerie princess-type - you definitely don't want to step on her. Or, you could just go see Epic , a hyperactive CG cartoon, very loosely adapted from children's book author and artist William Joyce's The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs.
