ANAHEIM, Calif. - After sitting out 10 games with a left high-ankle sprain, Zac Rinaldo returned to the Flyers lineup Thursday night against the team with the NHL's best record, the Anaheim Ducks. "I'm so excited; it's been too long. Three weeks is too long for me," the sometimes-frenetic winger said after the team's morning skate at the Honda Center. The original prognosis was that Rinaldo would be out six weeks. He was on a fourth line Thursday that had a new wrinkle: Michael Raffl, who has been used at left wing, played center for the first time in his NHL career.

Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf have ample motivation to do something remarkable in the Anaheim Ducks' shortened season. While they attempt to improve on the Ducks' recent past, they're also playing with their futures in doubt. Perry and Getzlaf will be unrestricted free agents this summer if they don't agree to new deals in Anaheim, their home for eight seasons as linemates and friends. Anaheim general manager Bob Murray opened training camp by expressing his strong desire to re-sign Perry, the goal-scoring former NHL MVP, and Getzlaf, the Ducks' captain and top playmaker.

BRUCE BOUDREAU never even got comfortable in his beloved recliner. Three days after the Washington Capitals fired him, the fast-talking coach was in another rink on the other side of the continent, back at work on another NHL salvage job. Boudreau took charge of the Anaheim Ducks yesterday, running his first practice with new orange-and-black gear and the same contagious enthusiasm that endeared him to Washington fans. The coach known as "Gabby" is already talking big about the Ducks' chances to save their dismal season.
