It is a red, 120-year-old Victorian house on DeKalb Street, near a Cottman Transmission store and across from Franzone's Pizzeria. Within its doors, insulated from the outside world of car grease and fast food, is a quiet parlor of linen and lace, quilted dolls, hand-painted Christmas decorations. This place, just minutes from the King of Prussia malls, is called the Country Angel. It is the brainchild of Ellen Markoski, who envisions that some day it might be part of a quaint antiques village of small shops that would lure lovers of American arts and crafts.

JESSE KRIMES, an artist from Lancaster County, was sentenced in 2009 to five years in federal prison for possession of powdered cocaine with intent to distribute. His new neighbors were the Aryan Brotherhood, the Mexican Mafia and other prison gangs. "I thought to myself, 'Where the hell am I?' " said Krimes, 32, a free man since last year, sitting in his Spring Garden studio in Olivet Covenant Church's former Sunday school. "I asked myself, 'How am I going to survive?' " He survived for a year at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, N.C., by drawing portraits of gang members, who sent them home to their loved ones.

Art and Craft opens with shots of an impossibly slim, small, unassuming man in his late 50s, completely bald except for a tiny ring of hair at the very back, shopping in a crafts supply store. So that's Mark A. Landis, the devilishly brilliant artist and confidence trickster who unloaded hundreds of forgeries on art museums across the country? What's he doing there? Codirected by Sam Cullman, Jennifer Grausman, and Mark Becker, Art and Craft is a thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating documentary about Landis' amazing feats as a forger and con man. For more than 20 years, until he was unmasked in 2008, Landis forged hundreds of pieces of art - from ancient illuminated manuscript pages to watercolors, drawings, and paintings by Louis Valtat, Paul Signac, Marie Laurencin, Stanislas L├ępine, and Daumier.

"ART AND CRAFT" is a documentary about art forger Mark Landis, an eccentric Southerner whose hobby is in making replicas of valuable art. His other hobby? Posing as a big-shot donor and fobbing his fake paintings off on museums (for free) as the real thing. He calls this "mischief. " Museum curators call it fraud. Either way, law enforcement isn't interested, because there's no money involved. Landis doesn't ask for payment. For him, the reward is simply fooling the curators - the satisfaction of a con job well done.
