It is a red, 120-year-old Victorian house on DeKalb Street, near a Cottman Transmission store and across from Franzone's Pizzeria. Within its doors, insulated from the outside world of car grease and fast food, is a quiet parlor of linen and lace, quilted dolls, hand-painted Christmas decorations. This place, just minutes from the King of Prussia malls, is called the Country Angel. It is the brainchild of Ellen Markoski, who envisions that some day it might be part of a quaint antiques village of small shops that would lure lovers of American arts and crafts.

Friday-Sunday Love and death Sophie Treadwell's grimly expressionistic 1928 drama Machinal reflects the playwright's other career as a journalist. It's based on the era's sensational murder trials of young women, ritualistically telling the story of a downtrodden stenographer who marries her boss, kills him when she falls for a younger man, and ends up on death row. The EgoPo Classic Theater production goes on at the Latvian Society, Seventh and Spring Garden Streets. Times: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday.

New York City-based coworking-space operator Joynture is opening a 23,000-square-foot location in April at the former South Street home of Pearl Art & Craft. The 417 South St. space will consist of about 40 private offices and 60 open desks, Joynture said in a release Thursday. The Philadelphia space follows Joynture's first location in New York's Financial District, it said. A location also is planned this year in Lahore, Pakistan, according to its website. The South Street space had been occupied by a dance school following Pearl's closure.
