Fox announced its fall lineup on Monday with great fanfare and minimal changes. The presentation at the Beacon Theater in New York began with a video of the cast from New Girl interviewing prospective additional roommates — everyone from Fringe's Walter Bishop to the Rubber Man from FX's American Horror Story. Afterward the network executives introduced two new sitcoms and a drama series, a modest harvest by any measure. The Mob Doctor is taking over House's practice on Monday nights.

THAT SIX DEGREES of Kevin Bacon game is about to get a lot easier. The Philly-raised Bacon, who's famously worked with at least half the actors in Hollywood, will be tracking a vast network of serial killers in "The Following," a new drama from Kevin Williamson ("Vampire Diaries," "Dawson's Creek") that Fox's entertainment chief calls "our next ‘24.' " Premiering at midseason — where Fox is still at its strongest — it has Bacon playing a former FBI agent brought in to help deal with a death-row escapee (James Purefoy, "Rome")

It's a beet, minus the root. Chard is a relative of the beet, but puts its energy into producing tender leaves and crunchy stalks instead of its root. Generally, any flavor that works well with spinach will partner with chard: butter, lemon, cream, garlic, shallots and vinaigrette. Try it in this easy quiche. Rainbow Chard, Bacon and Brie Quiche Makes 6 servings 1 prepared uncooked pie crust 8 ounces bacon, cut into small chunks 1 small yellow onion, diced 6 cups chopped rainbow chard (about ?

Here is an excerpt from the blog "My Daughter's Kitchen. " A few years working in New England gave me a taste of some of the best "chowda" I had ever eaten, both at little corner restaurants, seafood shacks on the Cape, and of course, at the famed Legal Sea Foods in Boston. Everyone had their own version, but the best were smooth and rich soups, stocked with clams, potatoes, a little onion, and a healthy splash of cream. Back in the Philadelphia area, I found it hard to find the same soup, as most restaurant renditions were dense and gloppy, thickened with flour and resonating with a strong flavor of bacon.

IN YOUR story regarding pay raises on June 25, you listed several individuals who won't be taking the raises afforded to all elected officials through a process similar to the midnight pay raise the state legislature passed several years ago. (Elected officials get automatic raises each year based on the Consumer Price Index for the previous year.) While City Council's been hard at work raising property taxes almost 14 percent over the last year, depleting the city's reserve balance and raising the sales tax an additional 1 percent, they have each received more than 13.2 percent in raises since July 1, 2006.
