Burger lovers know the name Pat LaFrieda. The North Jersey meat purveyor creates the superior beefy blends that make burgers at places like Pub & Kitchen unparalleled. The new easy-to-use e-store means those of us not in the biz can now cook up LaFrieda beef, lamb, pork, or veal at home. The brisket burger blend we tried left dinner guests in awe of our burger prowess. (And possibly set the bar a little too high all future parties.) Note: Shipping is pricey, but you can order up to four things for the same shipping price.

Newly acquired defenseman Pavel Kubina gives the Flyers some beef - he stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 258 pounds - and brings the team something that has been missing since Chris Pronger was sidelined in November with a concussion: nastiness. "He's a big dude. He's playing dirty," Flyers winger Jaromir Jagr said during a break in the Flyers Wives Carnival on Sunday at the crowded Wells Fargo Center. "I think that's what we're missing a little bit. " Jagr said he and Kubina are "good friends, and he was killing me in front of the net. I didn't like to play against him at all. " "He's something we don't have - a righthanded shot," general manager Paul Holmgren said.

It was a simple act, really, one that Ledjan Qato performed dozens of times in the corner of a spacious engineering lab at Villanova University. Again and again, he lifted a 14.5-pound weight more than four feet in the air and dropped it - BANG! - on a series of metal tubes. Again and again, they were crushed by the impact. Some, however, were crushed less than others, and therein lay the rudimentary beginnings of a project to protect U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

State College Borough police stepped up patrols Thursday night, vowing to crack down swiftly if Pennsylvania State University students riot again as they did Wednesday night after the firing of fabled football coach Joe Paterno. "The behavior of last night is not going to be tolerated," Police Capt. John Gardner told reporters at an afternoon briefing. "Each time they up the ante, we're going to up the ante too. . . . Wanton destruction of property is not acceptable. " About 10 p.m. Wednesday, a crowd estimated at more than 4,000 converged on downtown State College.

HAVE YOU EVER had a complaint against a police officer and not known what to do? Have you ever filed a complaint against an officer and felt that it went nowhere? City residents who want to know more about how the process of formally complaining about police works - from how to file one to how they are investigated - are urged to attend one of six community forums this month hosted by Internal Affairs. Stephen Johnson Sr., deputy commissioner of the Office of Professional Responsibility, said the forums are intended to explain the complaint process to the public and illustrate the department's commitment to transparency.

Lately Jonah Hill, the potty-mouthed teddy bear of Superbad , resembles a stuffed animal that's lost its stuffing and gained muscle tone. Did Hill shed those pounds by running the bases on the set of Moneyball ? In the movie that opened Friday he is Peter Brand, statistics wonk, a composite of all the real-life wonks who helped Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) spot baseball players with high on-base percentages and low salaries. Baseball, however, is not responsible for Hill's newly slim silhouette.

A LAWSUIT by a nanny and a chauffeur against Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon and his wife has ended with a judge's written ruling confirming her previous oral decision that the employees failed to prove their claims of mistreatment. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Amy Hogue had nothing but praise for Simon's former Miss Universe wife, Bui , and said the couple were extremely generous and kind to their employees. The nanny, Claudia Leite , claimed she was fired because she became pregnant.

The sports complex will be crawling with fans this week, so SEPTA is stepping up service on the Broad Street and Market-Frankford Lines. The traffic shouldn't be out of control, though, because each night has only one sports event. No concerts are scheduled at the Wells Fargo Center until an American Idol tour rolls in next week. Cars heading to the Shore, though, could compete with Phillies fans before Friday night's game. Here's the rundown: Soccer tonight. At 9 p.m., the United States' men's soccer team takes on Mexico at Lincoln Financial Field.
