Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who left a 17-year-old bicyclist critically injured on a street in Northeast Philadelphia. A witness told police the teenager appeared to be texting when he was hit by a dark colored sedan about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday on the 4500 block of Tyson Avenue near Ditman, in Tacony. Police said the boy was crossing the street on a bicycle when he was struck by the eastbound car. The victim was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale campus in extremely critical condition with head injuries.

A man riding a bicycle was killed when he was struck by a motorcycle at 8:37 p.m. Sunday at South Ninth Street and Oregon Avenue, police said. The motorcyclist, who was injured, was hospitalized in critical condition. Police released no other information Sunday night. - Kathy Boccella

A 69-year-old man was killed today when his bicycle collided with car in Haddon Heights, police said. The crash occurred about 7 a.m. on Hillside Avenue near Narbeth Avenue, said Police Chief Richard Kinkler. The victim, not immediately identified, was not from the area, Kinkler said. The collision is under investigation.

A 70-year-old Vineland, N.J., bicyclist died Wednesday after being struck by a pickup truck on Route 555 in Franklin Township. Robert R. Schwinn was riding along the northbound side of Route 555 near Weymouth Road when a 1992 Ford F-150 pickup struck him from behind at 7:23 a.m., according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. Schwinn, who was wearing a helmet and safety reflector vest at the time of the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.

Philadelphia police said they shot and killed a man who engaged officers in a violent struggle late Sunday after he was asked to stop while riding a bike in West Philadelphia. Police did not identify the man, who was 35 and lived in West Philadelphia. Two officers attempted to stop a bicyclist near 61st and Arch Streets about 11:45 in relation to an incident that occurred earlier in the night, police said. Police would not describe that incident. The man tried to pedal away but fell off the bike.

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer as he tried to cross Route 73 yesterday, police said. Kevin C. Casey, 51, of Maple Shade, was crossing the northbound lanes of the heavily traveled road from the Fox Meadow Apartments when he was hit at 1:17 p.m., police said. The truck driver, Lee Masters Sr., 38, of the Delair section of Pennsauken, was not injured. Police were not certain how fast Masters was driving but believed speed was a factor in the accident, said Detective Sgt. Bob Ross of the Maple Shade police.

A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after his bicycle was hit by a car on Martin Luther King Drive in Fairmount Park Tuesday evening, police said. The man, whose name was not released, was riding southbound on the sidewalk near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge about 7:40 p.m. when he attempted to cross the street and was hit by a northbound 2010 Toyota Camry, police said. The man slammed into the car's windshield on impact and then was tossed into the air, landing on the roadway, police said.

Police charged a 39-year-old East Frankford man in a hit-and-run accident Sunday that killed a 24-year-old Wissinoming woman who was riding a bicycle. Manuel Albandoz was drunk, unlicensed, and driving a black Ford Taurus that did not belong to him when he struck the cyclist about 12:25 a.m. Sunday at Torresdale and Adams Avenues in East Frankford, police said Monday. Celina Langan of the 6100 block of Tulip Street died later at Hahnemann University Hospital, police said. The Taurus was found abandoned near the scene.
