A 20-year-old on a bicycle was struck by a truck and killed late Thursday night while on his way home - just one block away. Thomas Rosser was riding west along Shawnee Road toward his home in the 100 block of Ellis Road about 11:15 p.m., police said. As he crossed Darby Road, he was struck by a Ford Bronco driven by James Welch, 24, of Sharon Hill. Rosser was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with multiple injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A woman was shot several times and killed early Tuesday while riding her bicycle on a downtown street in Chester City, police said. The victim, described as a Chester resident in her 20s, was still astride her bicycle when officers responding to a report of gunfire found her at Eighth and Sproul Streets about 2:25 a.m., police said. The woman had been shot more than five times in the torso, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 a.m. Police have identified "a person of interest" in the shootings, Deputy Chief Darren Alston said Tuesday.

A case of "being in the wrong place at the wrong time" is the way friends explain the death of a 23-year-old South Philadelphia man cut down Saturday in a hail of bullets while riding his bicycle. Police say they have no suspects or motive in the death of Aleem Goodwin of Federal Street near 19th. Goodwin, described by friends as "a church-going guy," was shot in the middle of the afternoon on Federal Street near 24th, a few blocks from his home. He was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania about an hour after the 2 p.m. shooting.

A Deptford woman was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison in the hit-and-run death of a 43-year-old Woodbury bicyclist in 2010. Mary J. Dalton, 42, must serve 85 percent of the term - four years, three months - before becoming eligible for parole. She pleaded guilty on Feb. 6 to vehicular homicide in the death of Thomas McCoy, a longtime employee of a local McDonald's, on Sept. 14 and admitted she was drunk at the time. Dalton is not related to County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton, whose office prosecuted the case.

A 68-year-old bicyclist was critically injured this morning when he was hit by a car on Cherry Hill, Cherry Hill, police said. Luis Soto, of 100 Park Blvd., Cherry Hill, suffered significant head injuries in the collision with a car about 7:45 a.m. on South Kings Highway, police said. He was listed in critical-unstable condition at Cooper University Hospital's Trauma Center. Police said an initial investigation indicated that Soto was entering Kings Highway from Munn Lane when he was struck by a northbound 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Jack Slotterback, of Mount Ephraim.

Philadelphia police are investigating a hit-and-run accident early Sunday in the city's East Frankford section that left a female cyclist fatally injured. Witnesses told police that the young woman had been struck about 12:25 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Torresdale Avenue near Womrath Street. The woman, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead a short time later. Investigators said witnesses identified the car that struck the cyclist as a black 1999 Ford Taurus that was found parked and unoccupied a few blocks away in the 4200 block of Torresdale Avenue.

A 10-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday evening in the city's Frankford section, police said. The boy was hit by a white minivan at 7:39 p.m. in the area of Jackson and Granite Streets, police said. The minivan was last seen traveling south on Jackson. Medics took the boy to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in stable condition with possible head and abdominal injuries. - Robert Moran

A 16-year-old boy was killed this afternoon in Southwest Philadelphia when he was struck by a privately-owned garbage truck as he was riding his bicycle, police said. The boy, who has not been named by police, was riding southbound on 58th Street near Elmwood St. About 3:40 p.m. a truck, owned by McCusker and Osborne, hit him, police said.
