Not merely this season's Heisman Trophy favorite, Brady Quinn is also a tourist attraction. Earlier this month, a rumor quickly spread, correctly, that Notre Dame's quarterback was inside a brick building on the edge of the school's campus. A little group gathered outside on a sidewalk. A doctor from Connecticut, driving to Chicago with his family, had been touring the school when they'd gotten the tip. The doctor's son was wearing a +$50 Brady Quinn No. 10 jersey, purchased at Notre Dame's bookstore.

New York, New York Hello, Nifflers. Can you see this OK? I ask because we've moved out of our comfy Niffle Blvd. headquarters for the week and into the core of the Big Apple, where they have two teams in first place, and the reception on my 1996 Compaq is a bit fuzzy up here. How exciting is it these days in North Jersey, er, New York? You be the judge. Yesterday, Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press reported that Jets center Nick Mangold witnessed two mechanics arguing over which team - the 10-1 Giants or 8-3 Jets - was more interesting.

Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn's uneven season is over, and so is his chance to impress new Browns president Mike Holmgren. Quinn was placed on injured reserve yesterday with an unspecified foot injury, the second straight season he has finished on IR. He got hurt while scrambling for 24 yards in the fourth quarter of Cleveland's, 41-34 win over Kansas City on Sunday. Browns coach Eric Mangini gave no specifics about Quinn's injury, but said his recovery could "take a little while.

MATT CASSEL will be back under center as the Chiefs' starting quarterback on Thursday night at San Diego, because Brady Quinn (concussion) has not been cleared to practice. Coach Romeo Crennel said Tuesday that Ricky Stanzi will be the backup. Fullback Nate Eachus has also been ruled out with a concussion. "They will continue with their testing and evaluation and will return when the doctor releases them, and lets us know they're OK," Crennel said. Cassel started the first five games of the season before he suffered his own concussion against the Ravens.

Watching a football season progress is like watching a painting take shape. One series of brushstrokes follows another until eventually the nature of the work becomes clear. Is it a masterpiece? Something a little less? Or paint-by-number quality? Well, for Penn State, two games probably have been enough to rule out a masterpiece. But after Saturday's 41-17 drubbing at Notre Dame, the other two options remain in play for the 1-1 Nittany Lions. The most discerning critic, of course, is Joe Paterno, who knows better than anyone how the canvas of this 2006 season is likely to look.

Notre Dame knows its lack of a national ranking, its 0-1 start and its freshman quarterback will do little to temper the hostility in State College, Pa., this weekend. The atmosphere at No. 14 Penn State is going to be loud and hungry for green blood. "We're going into Happy Valley as it's us against the world," Notre Dame center John Sullivan said. "The guys on the field are going to be the only ones rooting for us. We're going to be the only one in our own corner. We're going up there with 110,000-plus fans.

For 30 minutes last night, the Baltimore Ravens were inefficient, unproductive, and disorganized. Then, in just 17 seconds, they changed all that. Ray Rice scored on a 13-yard run, and safety Dawan Landry returned an interception of a Brady Quinn pass 48 yards for a touchdown on Cleveland's next play as the Ravens overcame the horrendous start for a 16-0 win over the hapless Browns. The Ravens (5-4) did not score in the opening half, when they used up their three time-outs in the first 6 minutes, 15 seconds; committed silly penalties; and made the Browns (1-8)

Brady Quinn is getting his second chance at starting. Quinn, benched just 10 quarters into the season for Derek Anderson, will start Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was pulled at halftime of the Browns' 34-3 loss to Baltimore on Sept. 27, and will make his return against one of the NFL's toughest defenses. "I'm excited to play," said Quinn, who is 1-5 in six career starts. "I'm excited to be a part of Monday night. Every team in the NFL is tough, them especially.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn will, according to sources, miss the rest of the season because of a broken right index finger on his throwing hand. The Cleveland Plain Dealer, citing a source, reported that Quinn might need surgery to repair the tendon on the last joint of the finger. Quinn originally broke the tip of the finger on the helmet of a Buffalo player on Nov. 17. ESPN reported that the team said Quinn won't participate in football activities for at least 6 weeks.
