OUR NOT-SO-LONG national nightmare is over: Miss California, Carrie Prejean, can keep her title. Donald Trump descended from a skyscraper yesterday to make his ruling. We still think he should have named Carrie the "Celebrity Apprentice" and Joan Rivers Miss California, but what can you do. It's been a busy week for Trump but once again he used his Solomonic wisdom to do what he does best - get publicity for Donald Trump and properties owned by Donald Trump. Really, were there a dozen people in America who actually cared about the Miss USA pageant?

This is terrible. Just when guys thought they could finally depend on weighty issues of the world being discussed in a beauty pageant, someone messes it up. That someone being celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton (you couldn't confuse him with Paris), who, while judging the Miss USA pageant, decided to play gotcha with Miss California. Hilton blindsided Carrie Prejean last month with a question about gay marriage. Prejean said she didn't believe in it, which cost her points with at least Hilton, and she finished second in the competition.

Uh-oh. There's trouble in beauty-pageant land. Not only has the former title-holder for Miss Pennsylvania USA, Sheena Monnin, turned in her rhinestone tiara, saying the just-completed Miss USA pageant was rigged, calling it "fraudulent" and "trashy," but her first runner-up won't take over for her. Valerie Compeggie, 26, of Pittsburgh, has — gasp — declined to do what first runner-ups are traditionally expected to do: complete what's...

SatTATT SORT of figured this eventually would happen: Carrie Prejean, the runner-up in the Miss USA pageant whose important opinions on gay marriage have been discussed by any number of media outlets that can post pictures of her in a bikini next to the story (see left), is subbing as a co-host on the morning show Fox and Friends on May 27. It's a one-time thing, Fox executive Suzanne Scott told U.S. News, but also said "We'll see what happens with it. " Sarah Palin, also a beauty-pageant contestant back in the day, came to Prejean's support Wednesday, saying that "the liberal onslaught of malicious attacks against Carrie Prejean for expressing her opinion is despicable . . . Our Constitution protects us all - not just those who agree with the far left.

IT'S NOT REALLY a surprise that Pink (aka as local gal Alecia Moore) is sexually versatile, but she publicly acknowledged to England's News of the World, that she plays on both sides of the street. "I'm not embarrassed about being bisexual," Pink said. "This is who I am. "Love is pure and I try to keep it that way," she added. "This is who I am, what I feel. "I think it's unnecessary to draw the subject out, but I think it even more stupid not to discuss it. " In London as part of her concert tour, Pink commented, "It seems as if bisexuality is a trend and I should whip up the masses.

Kate Gosselin: Rumors 'disgusting' In a new wrinkle in the tiresome reality-TV marital spat, Kate Gosselin, who juggles her hubby and eight kids for entertainment on TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8, tells People that rumors she has carried on with family bodyguard Steve Neild "are disgusting, unthinkable, unfathomable" and part of a tabloid smear campaign. This bit of dirt follows reports that Kate's better half, Jon, has had an affair with a 23-year-old schoolteacher. (He denies it.) The New York Daily News says TLC suits are scrambling to find a way for the show to capitalize on the couple's strife.

CARRIE PREJEAN, one of 2009's trio of more-famous runner-ups (with Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle), has been stripped of her Miss California crown by Miss USA pageant boss Donald Trump. Trump issued a statement yesterday saying Carrie had gotten the boot, not because of her views on gay marriage (she's opposed, in case you've been living under a rock), but because she didn't do the legwork the Miss California job requires. Trump told TMZ.com that Carrie was a no-show at about 30 events in which she was contractually bound to appear, so now Miss California runner-up Tami Farrell can appear instead.

MISS CALIFORNIA, the most famous runner-up since Clay Aiken, has angered the pageant gods. The directors of Miss California USA are looking into whether Carrie Prejean violated her contract by working with a national group opposed to gay marriage and by posing semi-clad when she was a teenage model. Pageant spokesman Roger Neal said yesterday it appears that Prejean, 21, has run afoul of several sections of the 12-page contract that prospective contestants must sign before competing in the state contest.

IF YOU'VE BEEN wondering how the Carrie Prejean vs. Miss California USA dueling lawsuits got settled so quickly and quietly, TMZ.com has the details. It seems that Carrie wanted more than a million dollars during her settlement negotiations with pageant officials, but the number came down - way down - when a lawyer for the pageant popped in a home video of Carrie at work . . . on herself. It's just so wrong when self-righteous beauty-pageant contestants give themselves the finger.
