Starting Tuesday, Cherry Hill parents will have to stop at the reception desk or main office in the district's schools to drop off homework, lunches, or musical instruments for their children. That restriction is one of several new measures going into effect as the result of a districtwide security assessment conducted in the wake of December's school shooting in Newtown, Conn. The rules, announced by Superintendent Maureen Reusche at a PTA meeting earlier this month, place limits on parents' presence in the district's 19 schools.

It seems the largest township in Burlington County tastes like cilantro-flavored hot sauce. Evesham tastes like crab cakes, too. And sushi. Then there are pizza, Irish stew, chicken marsala, potato-chip cookies, cream of tomato soup, chocolate truffles, and that groan-worthy favorite of carnivals everywhere: deep-fried Oreos. On Sunday afternoon, the township hosted its fifth annual "Taste of Evesham," drawing 2,200 noshers and wine-bibbers to tents lining Main Street.

Cherry Hill is partnering with Camden County to bid on the bankrupt Woodcrest Country Club in an effort to preserve it as open space. The club's only secured creditor is Sun National Bank of Vineland, N.J., which is owed about $11 million.

The first graders in Jill Turley's class at Joyce Kilmer Elementary School in Cherry Hill love to write letters to their principal. They share goals such as "I want to be a teacher" and observations such as, "You and I have the same haircut. " Turley delivers those letters to Kwame Morton, and "the sweetest thing is, he writes them back," she said. "He acknowledges those children. " Greeted with hugs and high-fives when he steps into the hallways, Morton likely won't be the object of as many displays of youthful affection next year, when he will oversee teenagers as the principal at Cherry Hill High School West.

Democrat Michelle L. Winters can keep her seat on the Gloucester Township Council, a judge in Camden County ruled this week, rejecting an argument by the township Republican committee that her appointment was improper. Winters, a registered nurse from Blenheim, was appointed by the all-Democratic council on Feb. 11 to replace Michelle Gentek, who left the council in January after being elected a freeholder. On March 13, the GOP committee and its chairman, Ray Polidoro, filed a complaint in Superior Court saying the township Democratic committee and the council had not met the deadline for filling the vacancy and must therefore leave the seat vacant until it could be filled in the November election.
